The mayor of Pécs announced in a statement that he would close all the excursion places and public parks in Pécs for the long weekend.
„In order to slow down the spread of the new coronavirus, as mayor of Pécs, taking use of the authority provided by the Prime Minister, I have decided to immediately take action surpassing the earlier slow and timid steps of the government. This authority has been provided with significant delay, which prevented mayors from preparing well thought-out decisions adequately. We are especially happy that the authority regarding the Easter holiday time has happened earlier than Easter Monday.
Closure of public parks for Easter holidays
Taking use of the authority provided by the Prime Minister, the mayor of Pécs has decided to close public places and parking lots that are popular with hikers and excursionists between 8AM, Friday, April 10th and 10PM, Monday, April 13th.
The experience of the pas few weeks shows that a significant amount of people started visiting public parks, therefore, to stop the spread of the virus, these public spaces must also be closed.
These public spaces and parking lots are the following:
– Tüskésrét leisure park and its parking lot
– Mandulás playground and its parking lot
– Malomvölgyi leisure park and its parking lot
– Éger-völgy forest park and its parking lot
– Lower and upper parking lot of the TV tower
– Lapis-tető parking lot
– Tettye park and parking lot
At the same time, Biokom closes down the entire area of the Mecsek Forest Park.
Visiting the public spaces listed above is not allowed during Easter holidays.
Leaders of the municipality ask the police and public space surveillance services to monitor and ensure that everyone observe the mayoral ordinance in the areas listed above.
Árkád and Pécs Plaza shopping centers during the long weekend
For the entire duration of the long weekend, the mayor of Pécs has decided that the restrictions apply to to both Árkád and Pécs Plaza, therefore every shop is required to close except for pharmacies, drugstores and grocery shops.
Sanctions
Violation of the restrictions contained in the ordinance will be sanctioned. Control and sanctioning (if necessary) is the responsibility of the police and public space surveillance services.
Restrictions of markets regarding the elderly during the epidemic emergency situation
The mayor of Pécs has received full authority for the entire duration of the epidemic emergency situation regarding the restrictions of visiting markets by the elderly above the age of 65. The mayor of Pécs will issue an ordinance next week for the entire duration of the epidemic emergency situation regarding this topic. The ordinance will likely change the time restrictions of purchasing for the elderly.
The ordinance will be valid after the Easter holiday weekend until the epidemic emergency situation is in effect.
We ask the citizens of Pécs to stay at home during the holidays as well! Don’t visit any public spaces neither inside nor outside the city where there is a risk of crowds forming. Let’s keep each other safe!
